Food that is good for the body and for general health and well-being has often earned the reputation of being unpalatable. Whenever the term “healthy food” is discussed, one imagines boiled foods and vegetables. But that need not be the case. Food that tastes good can be healthy too. Following are a few great-tasting healthy foods that will make you want to switch to eating healthy this New Year’s and even stick with the resolution.

Healthy food that tastes good

Greek yogurt

Proteins are the building blocks of the body and Greek yogurt is a great source of protein. In fact, the protein content in Greek yogurt is twice that of regular yogurts. It also keeps you full for a considerable period of time. A health tip would be to choose a plain, low-fat variety of Greek yogurt and then add fresh fruit as per your choice.

Dark chocolate

It is a known fact that dark chocolate is good for the heart since it is a powerhouse of antioxidants. But did you know that it has other benefits as well? Dark chocolate raises the good cholesterol (HDL) level in the body, helps with the blood flow, reduces risk of cardiovascular disease, keeps the blood pressure low, and even protects the skin against the sun. Also, a single piece of dark chocolate keeps you full and satisfied for much longer compared to milk chocolate. Thus, you will end up eating less chocolate comparatively.

Nut butters

Nut butters, such as almond, peanut, or cashew butter, give you an added protein boost along with providing fiber and healthy fats. Nut butters are appealing thanks to their creamy texture, and they can be combined with toast, muffins, or whole grain crackers for a healthy and fulfilling snack, thus being a better option than jams or butter.

Cheese

Till now we always avoided cheesey foods or savored them with a guilty conscience, but now you can eat cheese guilt free. Cheese is a good source of protein, with every serving of one ounce having approximately six grams of protein. Cheese can be combined with an apple or whole grain crackers for a healthy snack. Just so that you do not go overboard with cheese, you can opt for mozzarella, which is low fat. Or, you can choose a pungent but flavored type of cheese, such as feta or cheddar, thus helping you eat smaller portions.

Red wine

Winding down after a hard day’s work with a glass of red wine is now more alluring as red wine has quite a few health benefits. First, it helps to lower the bad cholesterol or LDL levels in the body. Secondly, it is loaded with antioxidants, thus ensuring a healthy heart free of clogging. Red wine even provides a boost to the brain, lowers blood sugar, and is recommended during a cold too.

Apart from the above stated foods, there are other healthy foods, like berries, which are loaded with fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants.
