Geriatric Medicine

Geriatricians specialize in the healthcare needs of people 65 and older. Geriatricians have received specialized training, and often Board Certification, in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions that occur at a higher incidence in older populations. A high percentage of older adults take multiple medications. Well-versed in the side effects (adverse reactions) of a wide range of medications, and possible negative drug-drug interactions in patients taking multiple drugs, geriatricians help patients safely manage their complicated pharmacotherapy regimens.

SMA Board-Certified geriatricians work closely with their patients to address common issues such as osteoporosis, dementia, and fall prevention. Whenever possible, they prefer a collaborative approach, so that their patients continue exercise control over their physical and mental health.
